NVWE Notes: Vividly “Graves-like” in both its flavor profile and elegant style, this is the best Scribe Cabernet yet produced. The nose is a focused perfume of ripe black cherry, Italian Maraschino cherry, black currant, blueberry, grilled black fig, cedar, leather, graphite, charcoal, mocha, peppercorn and dark pipe tobacco scents. The wine is amazingly seductive already, as the texture is racy yet tongue-coating, and the flavors of diamond clarity. A core of syrup drenched Amarena cherries holds center-stage on the palate, with all the other promised elements seeming to follow in lock-step. The finish is ultra-long and the expected gripping tannins are polished into softness and then smothered by a wave of flavor. This beauty will be glorious if allowed the five to ten years its concentration suggests, yet it is so delicious now that few bottles are likely to remain when it achieves full maturity. 650 cases produced.

LYNDENHURST (SPOTTSWOODE) CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA VALLEY 2014

NVWE Notes: This wine is, if deeply concentrated, more forthcoming in aroma than its Estate sibling. The nose offers a rich melange of Creme de Cassis, dried black cherry, black raspberry, violet, black fig, date molasses, bitter chocolate, toffee, clove, bouillon, old leather and forest-floor spice. It is more forthcoming yet on the palate, where dry black cherry, black currant, plum, black fig, date, toffee, graphite, leather, tobacco and foresty spice create a rich, lingering mouthful that is clipped just a bit at the end when the tannins kick in. Certainly a fine match to sauced meats and rich winter entrees already, it should further improve over the next five years.

LIQUID FARM CHARDONNAY "GOLDEN SLOPE", STA. RITA HILLS 2014

NVWE Notes: This immediately appealing Chardonnay is a blend of seven prestigious Sta. Rita Hills vineyards. The nose offers forthcoming, elegant, youthfully zesty aromas of sweet green apple, peaches and cream, lemon curd, pineapple core, orange blossom, white rose, brioche, baking spices, vanilla and a hint of white pepper. Gently tongue-coating fruit dominates on the palate, where quietly zesty flavors of fresh red apple, white peach tart, bees wax, white rose, hazelnut nougat and Mandarin orange achieve a delightful harmony. The finish is stylish, lingering and grows ever more fruity with airing. Delicious now, it should be captivating if allowed eighteen to twenty-four months in the cellar. 1200 cases made. Vineyard composition: 26% Bentrock, 20% Rita’s Crown, 18% Clos Pepe, 12% Kessler-Haak, 10% La Rinconada, 8% Zotovich & 6% Hilliard Bruce.
