Perhaps the finest Scribe bottling to date, this thrilling mountain Cabernet has it all. Expressive aromas of blackberry, cassis, blueberry, and boysenberry all leap from the glass along with accents of black tea, tobacco, cedar, violets, Mission fig, mocha, new leather, and earthy spice. In keeping with the common theme of the 2012 Napa vintage, the wine is open-knit, generous, and lush-textured on the palate while echoing the aromatic themes.

NVWE Notes: Bright and notably citric at opening, this wine fans-out forthright scents of lemon meringue pie, grapefruit zest, pear skin, vanilla wafer and hazelnut over more reserved aromas of white peach, pineapple core and nutmeg. The wines youth is much more evident on the mid-palate, where citric notes dominate and the rich body is stiffened by zest, yet the finish proves considerably more expressive, and the stone fruit, citrus, vanilla wafer and hazelnut flavors linger impressively. Extended airing revels an altogether different wine, as the fruit and aroma flesh out and everything becomes more generous and harmonious. Destined to be a lovely dinner companion, it wants another year or so to fully reveal its considerable charms. 136 cases made.
NVWE Notes: Surprisingly Italianate in its blending of authentic varietal character and drying minerality, this is a versatile dinner wine at a fine price. The nose offers pretty scents of walnut husk, stone fruits and minerals, over background hints of red berries. Things are supple, yet more expressive and focused on the palate, where flavors of quince, kiwi, peach pit, preserved lemon, nut husk and dried fruits roll into harder mineral elements at the finish. Everything lingers nicely, and it’s neatly poised for service with classic Mediterranean-style octopus, grilled fish and the like. 994 cases produced.
