NVWE Notes: Packed with deep flavor and possessing regal class and flawless balance, this is clearly one of the finest Spottswoode Cabernets ever made. Margaux-like scents of sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, violets/lavender, baking spices, damp earth, graphite, leather, and a cornucopia of blue and black fruits expressively waft from the glass in a room-filling, seductive bouquet. The wine is impeccably poised on the palate as waves of black cherry, blackcurrant, blueberry compote, blackberry, and just-ripe fig surge forth with elegant accents of baking spices, clove, cola, black olive, toffee, licorice root, dark chocolate, and violet tea. While nothing short of luscious in texture as so many Napa 2015s are, a perfect core of integrated acidity runs down the center of the wine, ensuring the trademark finesse, femininity, and length for which Spottswoode is so renowned world-wide. The extraordinarily fine-grain structural tannins serve as just enough of a backbone to balance the texture and promise a very long life. It is magnificently delicious already. And while it is most certainly no crime whatsoever to drink this rendition upon release, expect at least 25 years of glory as this masterpiece continues its evolution.

NVWE Notes: This wine is, if deeply concentrated, more forthcoming in aroma than its Estate sibling. The nose offers a rich melange of Creme de Cassis, dried black cherry, black raspberry, violet, black fig, date molasses, bitter chocolate, toffee, clove, bouillon, old leather and forest-floor spice. It is more forthcoming yet on the palate, where dry black cherry, black currant, plum, black fig, date, toffee, graphite, leather, tobacco and foresty spice create a rich, lingering mouthful that is clipped just a bit at the end when the tannins kick in. Certainly a fine match to sauced meats and rich winter entrees already, it should further improve over the next five years.
NVWE Notes: Racy and seductive, this rich young beauty introduces itself through an aromatic perfume of mulberry, Cassis, black raspberry, black cherry and black fig fruits woven into a tapestry of dark chocolate, espresso bean, tobacco, licorice root, cedar, nut husk, leather and toffee scents. It is denser and more compact on the palate, where the textbook Coombsville creaminess is braced by both the wine’s youthful freshness and some polished, mostly structural tannins. The flavors flow nicely, with a notably dinner-worthy balance, to finish with a lingering reprise of the fruity-savory elements promised in the nose. Delicious now with a myriad of rich meat-based entrees, it should only grow in charm and elegance over the next four years and beyond. 57% Cabernet Sauvignon & 43% Merlot. 672 cases produced.
