DRAGONETTE SAUVIGNON BLANC GRASSINI VINEYARD HAPPY CANYON 2011
Taut, linear, and full of vibrant intensity, this expressive Santa Barbara Sauvignon Blanc beautifully conveys its vineyard source. Tart green apple and white grapefruit lead the way supported by touches of pear and lemon/lime zest. The assertive minerality, consisting mostly chalk and river stone, runs down the center of the wine providing clear focus and age-worthy structure. Reminiscent of a fine Sancerre with a subtle nudge of California sunshine, this lovely effort should prove a fine companion to raw-bar fare or simply grilled fish, prawns, and sautéed scallops. Those patient enough to lay this down for a year or two will be rewarded with even more complexity as the wine unfolds and fills out.
