2015 Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon
“Leonardini Estate” Napa Valley

$84.95

San Francisco Wine Panel

95 Points

NVWE Notes: This three vineyard reserve-level blend is plush in fruit and packed with sweet-savory spice. The nose delivers aromas of sweet dark cherry, blueberry, black plum and black currant, wedded to scents of Victorian toffee, dried dark rose, laurel, cedar, clove, five spice, dark pipe tobacco and bitter chocolate. Flavors of Italian Maraschino cherry and bitter chocolate take center-stage in the mouth, along with black currant, black plum, grilled Mission fig and a hint of blueberry. These fruit notes hold lead position through a quietly gripping, palate-coating, lingering finish, where flavors of date, fig, mocha, tobacco and dried herbs lend support. While likely to grow in the cellar over the next decade, it is deliciously satisfying now.

2015 Odonata Cabernet Sauvignon
Douglas Crest Vineyard Santa Cruz Mountains

$64.95

San Francisco Wine Panel

93 Points

NVWE Notes: This immediately appealing Cab is classically Santa Cruz Mountain, with all that implies. The aromas are a rich, zesty mix of Amarena cherry and red currant, layered over violet, dry rose, peppercorn, vanilla and hints of loamy forest earth. On the palate, tannic grip, zest and minerality yield center-stage to juicy flavors of sour red cherry, cranberry liqueur, red raspberry, violet, red rose, sumac berry, pink peppercorn, star anise, cardamom, laurel and brushy forest earth. Although it’s ultra-long and deliciously food-worthy already, another three years of cellar-time may bring even greater rewards. 65 cases produced.

SANGLIER CABERNET SAUVIGNON "LEFT TUSQUE", SONOMA COUNTY 2016

NVWE Notes: Focused yet structured, and reminding of classic 1960s/1970s style Cabernet, this wine offers aromas of Cassis, black raspberry, black cherry, violet, cedar, baking-spice, licorice root, dark earth, leather and smoked herbs. On the palate, it shows concentration, fine tannic grip and a firmly structured mouth-feel. The flavors stay focused and they are a lingering, more youthfully bright, more notably mineral mirror of the aromas. Though it will prove a delicious companion to grilled meats right now, three years of cellar-time should significantly broaden its food-matchability. 300 cases made.

AVEO CABERNET SAUVIGNON, ATLAS PEAK NAPA VALLEY 2015

NVWE Notes: This very impressive Cabernet seems textbook “Atlas Peak” in its aromatic layering of dark cherry, black raspberry, purple plum, black currant, violet, brûléed fig, peppercorn, clove, vanilla, cedar, leather, darkly sweet pipe tobacco, graphite and charred wood. Minerality, zest and tannic grip are evident on the palate and join to streamline the texture but not the impact of the wine’s deep baked plum, berry compote, dark cherry and grilled fig flavors and counterpoints of sweet-savory spice. The finish is lingering and the balance immediately food-worthy, despite the wine’s clear potential for growth. It will be well matched to darkly caramelized roasts, braised beef short ribs, garlicky leg of lamb and the like. Expect four years or more of steady growth. 144 cases produced.
