NVWE NOTES: Although youthfully firm, the nose of this fine Chardonnay is sophisticated and charming, and it offers gradually expanding aromas of toasted nuts, spiced fresh apples, lemon zest and minerals. It is also firm on the palate, yet is rich in texture and displays evolving flavors of apple jam, preserved lemon, toasted hazelnut and minerals. Those mineral notes are more obvious in the finish and bring a cutting balance to the rich and lingering fruit. This delicious and very underpriced Chardonnay will be even better in 12-24 months. 938 cases produced. WINEMAKER NOTES: The 2008 Boxcar Chardonnay was sourced from the Sonoma Coast, and contains mostly Old Wente clone fruit – some from vines upwards of 25 years old. The wine was fermented on lees in 50% neutral oak and 50% stainless steel barrels, then completed malolactic fermentation in new and used French oak over ten months. Its complex texture offers brightly focused fruit coupled with a strong mineral undertone.
