Notes on the Charter Oak Zinfandel Napa Valley 2003 : NVWE NOTES: Both sweet and savory to the nose, this opulent wine boasts aromas of dark plum, cherry liqueur and black fig tied to black and white peppercorn and forest floor scents. It is plush and almost creamy on the palate, where crisp acidity works to balance lavish fruit. The finish is long and rich and delicious, with loads of dark cherry, plum and a trace of mocha in the foreground over equally appealing fig, vanilla,earth and black pepper. Its richness and style make it a perfect foil for blue cheese with walnut bread, but it is dry enough for steaks or rich roasts. A blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah from vines approximately 100 years old.

WINEMAKER NOTES: The most current release and perhaps the best Zinfandel ever produced by Charter Oak Winery. This is a well-balanced, bold, blackberry-scented Zinfandel with loads of black currant and black cherry spice. This Zin was blended with a generous amount of Petite Syrah from two 100-year old vineyards in St. Helena, century-old Monte Rosso grapes as well as several old vine vineyards in Calistoga, St. Helena, including the Charter Oak estate Zinfandel on Charter Oak Avenue in St. Helena. This wine is elegant in style, with a blackberry cherry velvet finish and should improve with bottle aging over the next five to ten years.
