Notes on the Kobalt Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 465 Cases Prod 94 Pts Robert Parker : WINE ADVOCATE REVIEW: 94 POINTS I thought the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon was even stronger than the 2004. The wine has remarkable intensity, an inky bluish/purple color to the rim, and a stunning nose of acacia flowers interwoven with blueberry and blackberry, espresso roast, and pain grille. The wine is rich, full-bodied, has the somewhat European-like structure of this vintage, but exceptional generosity, richness, and depth. It is certainly an impressive Cabernet Sauvignon (there is a some Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc in the final blend). This wine should age nicely for 20-25 years. This limited production offering of approximately 400-450 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is made by consultant Mark Herold for proprietor Kevin Carrikar. Virtually all of the Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the cool-climate, higher elevation vineyards in Napa’s sector of Coombsville.

NVWE NOTES: Opaque purple color. Ultra-ripe, almost sweet nose of blackberry, mulberry, dark cherry, black fig, toffee, vanilla and forest floor scents, that fan-out in an almost syrupy array. As expected, the wine is enormous on the palate, with a plush juiciness which almost entirely suppresses its tannins. The finish is long and balanced to dryness, but it is just as opulent as what preceeded it, with blackberry, plum, Cassis, toffee, earth and vanilla the main themes. Expect several years of further evolution, but don’t be afraid to enjoy it right now. Blended with 6% Petite Verdot and 4% Malbec. 465 cases produced.
