NVWE NOTES: Made for the first time exclusively from Napa Valley fruit sources, this is the best Lateral in memory. The aromas are a soft-edged, zesty and complex marriage of sweet red plum, black cherry, boysenberry, vanilla and baking-spice scents, with background suggestions of orange zest and red licorice. On the palate, the wines rich texture is firmed by some appropriate tannic grip, yet pretty plum-berry fruit and sweet-savory spice are as dominant here as in the nose, and the flavors linger nicely. Certainly a truly appealing drink already, it is destined to grow in polish and sophistication over the next two or three years. A blend of 30% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec & 7% Petite Verdot. WINEMAKER NOTES: Lateral has earned a respected cult following for being quite simply the finest Bordeaux-style blend at its price point. Featuring for the first time exclusively Napa Valley grapes, the 2008 vintage is yet another masterful expression of Merlot & Cabernet Franc.
