CONNOISSEUR'S GUIDE REVIEW: 91 POINTS Long on deep, well-ripened fruit and fit with a full measure of caramelly oak, this head-turning young Pinot commands attention right from the first, and it gets high marks for concentration, complexity and richness. It is both full-bodied and balanced with glimmers of velvet that point the way to very good things with age, and, even if already a tasty and genuinely involving wine, it has only begun to reveal the whole of its virtues and is sure to reward a few years of patience with more richness and reach yet. NVWE NOTES: This lovely Pinot is youthfully crisp, but well evolved and already seductive for its depth and balance, as aromas of sweet smoke, black tea leaves, bouillon, root beer bark and tobacco add complexity to the wines core of boysenberry-black cherry fruit. On the palate, it is rich, yet racy in texture, with boysenberry and cherry flavors being the dominant themes. The finish is long, supple and quietly zesty, as berry fruit holds center stage and the darker savory components march a step behind. Made with fruit sourced from the Dutton Family’s “Bateman” vineyard. 250 cases produced. WINEMAKER NOTES: This single vineyard designate is showing a deep, multi-layered core of complex flavors redolent of black cherry, plum, spice, vanilla and herbs. Silky tannins provide a fine framework, while balanced acidity offers excellent focus on the palate. The wine finishes long and luxuriously. 286 cases produced.
