2006 Freeman Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
NVWE Notes: Youthfully reserved, but elegant and well structured, this is a fine and age-worthy Pinot. the aromas are a gradually expansive mix of teaberry, sweet red plum, hints of white pepper, yellow rose and roasted grain. It is firm and quietly tannic, with lingering, mineral-laced flavors of red plum, red cherry and grain. Best now with sauced pork or veal medallions, it will be very tasty indeed in two years. 800 cases produced.

2006 Arista Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
NVWE Notes: With its veneer of smoke, creamy vanilla, roasted grain and coriander seed, and rich core of black cherry, dry red rose and cola, the aromas of this immediately appealing Pinot are textbook Russian River. On the palate, it is super-sleek in texture, but mouth-coating, as its lovely cherry, sweet red plum, cereal grain, coriander seed and cola flavors fan out at the finish. Thoroughly delicious right now, it will grow more sophisticated over the next two years. It will be a wonderful companion to grilled salmon or tuna, and will stand up beautifully to rack of lamb or sauteed duck breast. 1,000 cases produced.

2006 Benovia Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
NVWE Notes: When first opened, this fascinating debut Pinot seems a stew of darkly ripe fruit and smoke scents, yet it gains focus, greater depth and delightful prettiness as it airs. Those initial aromas of dark cherry, hunters broth, black tea and roasted grain give way to brighter notes of boysenberry, black cherry and sour cherry candy, which combine to push the terroir and oak-derived scents rearward. The flavors follow the same pattern, and they grow ever more delicious over the next twelve hours or so, hiding the wines roasted grain and sandalwood spice and its firm tannins beneath a bath of boysenberry, cherry and yellow and red rose. Truly delicious now, it will get significantly better over the next four or five years.

2006 Pelerin St. Vincent Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands
NVWE Notes: The nose of this Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is impressively true to its appellation and also shows strong mineral-fruit contrasts. The aromas are of red cherry, red plum, smoke, dry red rose, dried orange peel and iron ore, which find a very pleasant harmony. The wine is both brighter and juicier than expected on the palate, as dried Michigan cherry, red licorice and red plum cast their sweet spell over the wines smoke, mineral and vanilla undercurrents. The finish is long and gently tannic, which brings structure, but no roughness. Built for roasts and complex stews, it is already tasty and will improve for another 12 to 18 months. A blend of fruit from the Rosella's, Paraiso, Fair Ranch and Tondre vineyards. 900 cases produced.
