HOLIDAY HALF DOZEN ($124.95) DAZZLING DOZEN ($229.95)
NVWE Notes: Rich and gently spicy, the aromas of this tasty and very forthcoming Cabernet-based blend roll-out as a slightly gutsy melange of blackberry, black currant, black peppercorn, violet, sandalwood, vanilla and caramel scents. Blueberry, blackberry and black currant fruit notes join counterpoints of black pepper, sandalwood, star anise and tobacco on the mid-palate and even more so in the wines lingering finish. Dinner friendly and a pleasure all by itself, it will beautifully compliment winter’s richer fare.
NVWE Notes: Complex and offering a darkly fruity-savory perfume, the nose of this fine Syrah couples rich scents of licorice root, peppered beef, jerk powder, vanilla toffee and humidor-spice to deeper strains of black raspberry, black fig and pomegranate molasses. It is medium-bodied, yet texturally rich on the palate, where some tannic grip and quiet fruit acidity bring raciness to the lingering flavors of dark berry, dark plum, pomegranate molasses, star anise, sandalwood and dried red rose. This one seems an ideal companion to Winter’s rich stews and roasts. Blended with 6% Viognier.
NVWE Notes: The aromas of this attractive and well-evolved Pinot Noir suggest sweet plums, old-fashioned strawberry candy, dried cherries, caramel, mulling spices, Sangria and a wisp of sandalwood incense. In the mouth there is an appealing silkiness to compliment the dried cherry, dried plum, mulling-spice, caramel and sandalwood flavors. Genteel and dinner-friendly, it should prove a easy sipper as well.
NVWE Notes: This delightfully easy-going wine is bright and perky to the nose, where scents of guava, quince, honeydew melon, lemon blossom and a hint of white pepper find a genteel harmony. The elegant balance enjoyed in the aromas is replicated on the palate, as the notes of lemon, honeysuckle, white pepper and minerals contrast but never clash with the richer guava and quince core of flavor. This one would make an especially tasty compliment to Sole in butter sauce or deep fried calamari.
NVWE Notes: Both bright and sophisticated, the nose of this lovely Chardonnay offers scents of honey-baked apple, white peach, pineapple core, nutmeg, baking spices, toasted hazelnuts and a hint of crushed white rose. The wine is creamy in texture, quietly zesty and full of peach tart, tarte tatin and toasted nut flavors, along with suggestions of honeysuckle and vanilla cream pie. The finish is lingering and gently palate-coating and while the wine is fully mature, it never loses its engaging freshness. It should prove as worthy with fish as with fowl and should nicely compliment a creamy white wine sauce.
NVWE Notes: The nose of this clearly dinner-worthy bottling offers forthcoming aromas of baked apples, stone fruits, peach pit, preserved lemon, white pepper and a wisp of smoke. In the mouth, a dark mineral streak brings extra dryness to the wines baked apple, peach pit, white pepper and smoke flavors. The finish is lingering and hard-dry, which suggests that service with oysters, sushi and the like will be especially rewarding.
