This is a big-scale Cab that well-represents its vintage. The nose is a richly-layered mix of black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, black fig, violet, rose, Thai basil, black tea, clove, vanilla, dark chocolate and forest earth scents. The wine is big, gutsy and slow to open on the palate, yet airing reveals a suppleness of texture and a cornucopia of fruit and spice. What is revealed is a sweet-natured, lingering array of blueberry, black currant, mulberry, black fig, vanilla, baking-spice, licorice root, espresso bean and sweet pipe tobacco flavors. Both classy and dinner-worthy despite its youth, it may be quite special with a bit of cellar time. Expect five years or more of steady improvement.
