WHITEHALL LANE PROPRIETARY RED "TRE LEONI", NAPA VALLEY 2016

NVWE Notes: Bright, forthcoming and well-focused, the nose of this spicy Cab blend offers rich scents of raspberry jam, red plum, sour red cherry, "red vines", violet, peppercorn, baking-spice and vanilla. It is both gutsier and darker in personality in the mouth, where black pepper, dried sage, bay leaf and tobacco notes add spice to flavors of black currant, black raspberry, and black fig galette. There is fine underlying grip at the finish and intriguing dried herbal accents as well. Built for dark roasts, steaks and Winter's richer entrees, it should grow smoother and deeper over the next few years.

J. RICKARDS CABERNET SAUVIGNON, ALEXANDER VALLEY 2016

NVWE Notes: Melding fine ripeness, the polished feel of its vintage and the personality of its appellation, this is an impressive Cab. The aromas and the lingering flavors that mirror them expand with airing to create a satisfying, multidimensional expression. Rich notes of black currant, black cherry, black raspberry, violet, black plum, cola, clove, cedar, star anise, peppercorn, dark chocolate, leather and a hint of dried dill are all evident, while the wine’s firming tannins bring a welcome counterpoint to its richness. Delicious now, it will be better still with a year or so of cellar time.

BLACKSMITH CABERNET SAUVIGNON "CLRT", NAPA VALLEY 2016

NVWE Notes: This already tasty Cabernet opens with lots of fruit and spice and gains in elegance as it airs. The nose is a rich melding of fruity and savory influences that include notes of sour dark cherry, black cherry, red and black currant, black raspberry, blueberry, black fig, cola, cedar, tobacco, vanilla, dark chocolate, and leather. It is medium-rich in body, with flavors that parallel the aromas, but with an emphasis on red cherry and star anise in the lingering finish. Moderate tannins make it very attractive already, and it is likely to grow more so over the next year or two.
