BENOVIA PINOT NOIR, TILTON HILL VINEYARD, SONOMA COAST 2015
NVWE Notes: Rich, bold and notably complex, the nose of this young Pinot melds scents of Italian Maraschino cherry, Bing cherry galette, black plum, Victorian toffee, dried Mr. Lincoln rose, hazelnut, Schezuan peppercorn, clove, sandalwood, coriander seed and a bit of star anise. It is rich in body, tightly-wound, somewhat grippy yet impressively long on the palate, where a juicy strain of dark cherry and cherry pit hovers above notes of forest mushroom, hazelnut husk, nougat and five-spice powder. Very long and clearly age-worthy, it is fine dinner wine now, yet is likely to reveal its full elegance in five years and beyond. 300 cases produced.
Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Tilton Hill has a nose of chocolate-covered cherries, black raspberries and mulberries with touches of dried bay leaves, stewed tea and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied with a solid backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and a lively acid backbone, it finishes long with an herbal lift. 293 cases produced.
Full-bodied, with a robust mix of rich, deep dark berry fruits, with the wild blackberry presence the dominant theme. Long and persistent. Drink now through 2025. 300 cases made. JL Issue Apr 30, 2018
