BOESCHEN ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, ST. HELENA NAPA VALLEY 2016
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple colored and offers youthful notes of crushed red and black currants, black cherries and warm plums with touches of underbrush, wild thyme, menthol and chocolate box. Medium to full-bodied, the tightly knit palate bursts with vibrant red and black fruits, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and finishing long and earthy.
NMVWE Notes: Pure, focused, true to its vineyard and grape variety and wonderfully elegant, this is much the prettiest Boeschen Cab yet released. The nose is a rich medley of blueberry, mulberry, dark cherry, black currant, dark plum, violet and grilled fig scents that find a deft harmony with chalky mineral contrasts and a sweet-natured layering of nutmeg, mace, baking-spice, vanilla toffee and tobacco leaf. It is gutsy, if sleek in texture and a bit youthfully reserved in the mouth, where flavors of dark cherry, blueberry, black plum, Cassis, grilled fig, star anise, Victorian toffee, dried sage and laurel are firmed by harder mineral notes and polished tannins. Quite long and already delicious, it will grow in stature and appeal over the next five years and likely well beyond. 450 cases produced.
