BOESCHEN CABERNET SAUVIGNON "ESTATE", ST. HELENA NAPA VALLEY 2013
NVWE Notes: This sensational Cabernet has a deeply concentrated, seductively spicy nose of chiseled focus, and it’s scents of red and black currant, black raspberry, black cherry, spiced plum, red currant, minerals, allspice, cedar and humidor-spice fan-out in perfect harmony. The texture is weighty, and the wine is both focused and classically structured on the mid-palate, where the flavors prove a perfect mirror of the aromas and the potential for extended aging is obvious. The finish is an ultra-long melange of currant, black cherry, plum, baking-spice and mineral flavors, with a rich blast of star anise at the end. Those with cellars can expect five to ten years of steady improvement and long life after that. 320 cases produced.
This small, estate-grown red from the eastern edge of St. Helena shows meticulous care taken both in the vineyard and cellar, with its remarkably soft, integrated tannin, especially in this warm, ripe vintage. Given just 2% Petit Verdot, it shines in black pepper, black cherry and a tiny suggestion of vanilla. 2/1/2017 Virginie Boone
