BREWER-CLIFTON CHARDONNAY STA. RITA HILLS 2013
NVWE Notes: This classy Chardonnay has a youthfully dense, mineral-accented nose, with aromas of yellow peach, apple jelly, honey, kumquat preserves, smoke and slate. It is crisper and shows a more chalky minerality on the palate, with cutting dryness that firms its flavors of lemon bar, apple jelly, kumquat preserves and chestnut honey. The finish lingers nicely, although the wine is still a bit youthfully tight. Delicious now with many a fish or fowl entree, it should be considerably more expressive and generous if allowed another 12 to 18 months of cellar time, and will likely retain its many virtues for years after that. A blend of fruit from the 3-D, Gnesa and Machado vineyards. 1250 cases produced.
The 2013 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills is round, succulent and deeply expressive. Orange peel, butter, chamomile and apricot pit flesh out in the glass. The style is open-knit and accessible, with lovely oiliness and textural richness throughout. Vineyard sources are 3-D, Gnesa and Machado. Drink 2015 - 2020. Antonio Galloni Aug 2015
