CARTER CABERNET SAUVIGNON "CARTER", NAPA VALLEY 2015
Inky purple-black colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Carter opens with alluring chocolate box and mocha notes over a core of blackberry pie and crème de cassis with spice box and tapenade hints. Full-bodied, concentrated and packed with black berry and savory layers, it has a firm frame of grainy tannins and a very long, spicy finish.
NVWE Notes: This 4-vineyard blend is immediately appealing for its combination of fruity, earthy, savory and dried herbal impressions. The nose offers scents of Italian Maraschino cherry, sour red cherry, blackberry, blueberry, Cassis, red currant, violet, dried red rose, briar, graphite, clove, peppercorn, bouillon, Victorian toffee, cocoa nibs, date sugar, star anise and laurel. Sour cherry, black raspberry, briar and licorice take the lead on the palate, supported by rich counterpoints of vanilla, baking-spice, clove, Chai tea and dried herbs. The finish is long and the tannins well submerged, so dinner service is already appropriate despite the wine’s certain cellar-worthiness. Expect 4 to 8 years of steady growth. Fruit sourced from Coliseum Block, Las Piedras, To Kalon & Weitz Vineyards.
