FOLEY JOHNSON CABERNET SAUVIGNON, RUTHERFORD NAPA VALLEY 2014
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Readers looking for a terrific value in Napa Cabernet Sauvignon should check out Foley Johnson’s 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford. Attractive dark black cherry and black currant fruit nicely complemented by subtle oak and spice is followed by a medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, layered wine with a dark purple color, gorgeous fruit, and a long texture and finish. There’s nothing out of place or rustic in this elegant but authoritative Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.
NVWE Notes: Gutsy and flavorful, this Cab shows the Rutherford pedigree in its aromas of black cherry, baked red cherry, red and black currant and fig fruit scents. It has polished but noticeable tannins on the palate, although the forthcoming cherry, red plum, black currant and black raspberry fruit shunts it aside nicely. The finish is lingering and attractively spice-laden, as notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, licorice root, toffee, leather, toasted cedar and baking spices show up in support. Built for steaks and wintry roasts, it is tasty now and should be better in a year or two.
