LEWIS CABERNET SAUVIGNON, NAPA VALLEY 2015
NVWE Notes: This is the most powerful Lewis “Napa” in many years. The nose layers dark tobacco, baking-spice, cedar, licorice root, date sugar and hints of cola and black fig in support of a denser core of black currant, dark cherry, mulberry and blackberry fruit. It seems almost thick on the palate, as heady richness, piquant zest and tannic underpinnings create an almost sinewy mouth-feel. The mid-palate and finishing flavors are a lingering mouthful of Cassis, blackberry, mulberry, black cherry, date sugar, fig, licorice root, bitter chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and dark foresty spice. Best with dark roasts, braised short ribs and the like at this point, it has five to eight years of positive evolution ahead and will probably live for twenty years. 1700 cases made.
Matches intensity with refinement, with subdued oak shading rich dark berry, espresso, graphite and cedar notes, ending with a long, full finish that echoes the core flavors. Best from 2021 through 2033.
