LEWIS CHARDONNAY, NAPA VALLEY 2017
NVWE Notes: Youthfully reserved yet notably rich from the gate, the aromas of this textbook Lewis “Napa” Chardonnay are a juicy mix of peach-nectarine tart, tarte tatin, toasted meringue, Meyer lemon cookie, white rose, honeysuckle, vanilla and sweet baking-spice scents. On the palate it proves as ripe as expected, yet it delivers ample zest in counterpoint to its mouth-coating flavors of baked apples, stone fruit tarts, pear liqueur, lemon- meringue, honey-drenched hazelnut, and vanilla wafer. The finish is youthfully firm, yet juicy and long and the wine is more than satisfying already. Expect it to get ever better for at least two years.
Powerful and re ned, with lilting avors of ripe pear, apple pastry and butterscotch supported by fresh acidity. The long nish is succulent, with marzipan hints. Drink now through 2023. 1,200 cases made. K.M.
