LEWIS CHARDONNAY "RESERVE", NAPA VALLEY 2015
NVWE Notes: As grand as in any previous vintage, the 2015 Reserve is aromatically on-point as well, with nectarine, peach, baked apple, lemon meringue, nutmeg and baking spice scents all present. It seems bigger yet on the palate, where nutmeg, hazelnut, vanilla wafer and brioche serve as underpinning to flavors of peach, baked apple, nectarine chutney, golden fig, pear tart and lemon curd. The finish is tight, yet lingering and very rich. A fine sipper already, it should grow more elegantly dinner-worthy over the next two years, and could prove one of the winery’s best ever. 500 cases produced.
The presence of cedary oak stands out, but the rich fruit holds its own, offering tiers of apricot, citrus, green apple, hazelnut and melon flavors. Though enjoyable now, this should improve after a few months in bottle. Drink now through 2021. 550 cases made. J.L.
