LIMERICK LANE ZINFANDEL "ESTATE", RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY 2015
Dark and brooding, with blueberry and licorice aromas and burly blackberry and cracked pepper flavors that finish on a brambly, tannic note. Best after 2018. 2,000 cases made. Issue Oct 31, 2017 TF
NVWE Notes: A step up in ripeness identifies this clearly as a 2015 Zin, as the nose is a reserved but heavy-rich melange of black raspberry, black cherry, cherry pit, Asian plum sauce, white pepper, dry red rose, licorice root and five-spice scents. Pomegranate syrup, black raspberry, cherry pit, crab apple syrup, nut husk, white and black peppercorn, licorice root and drying mineral suggestions make a bold if less-evolved statement on the palate, where tannic grip tightens things up. The finish delivers lots of coiled pomegranate-raspberry fruit, and if this wine is not as immediately forthcoming as the terrific 2013 and 2014 “Estate” bottlings, it may well prove the grandest in scale. 1700 cases produced.
