PAUL LATO PINOT NOIR "ATTICUS", JOHN SEBASTIANO VINEYARD, STA. RITA HILLS 2015
NVWE Notes: Altogether flashy, the nose of this knockout Pinot pours-forth super-deep Bing cherry, dark cherry, pomegranate, black raspberry, spiced red plum, berry cobbler, Chai tea, dried herb, hazelnut and humidor-spice scents. It is palate-coating and weighty in the mouth, where dried orange peel and cranberry accent a deeper core of dark cherry, plum cobbler, baking-spice, star anise and sweet pipe tobacco flavors. Airing amplifies everything, both firming the wine’s backbone and enlarging the flavor profile, so the finish is of a wave of cherry, strawberry, plum, whortleberry, red currant, pink rose, pink peppercorn, sumac berry, black tea, ginger snap, star anise and humidor-spice flavors. Piquant zest keeps this hedonistic fruit in focus. Wonderful already, it is likely five years at least from it’s peak.
The 2015 Pinot Noir Atticus John Sebastiano Vineyard is another total knockout. Succulent red fruit, blueberry, lavender and spice infuse this deep, voluptuous Sta. Rita Hills Pinot. Ample, broad and creamy, the 2015 has it all. What a gorgeous wine this is! Readers who can find it should not hesitate. Drink 2020 - 2030 Antonio Galloni Sep 2017
