It is sleek and quietly grippy on the palate, where sour red cherry, red plum, whortleberry and red and black raspberry dominate, while yellow rose, dried orange zest, mace and hazelnut chime-in in support. The wine’s flavors and especially the finish grow in depth and appeal with airing, as the cinnamon apple, sour red cherry and whortleberry notes become truly prominent and sweet pipe tobacco, baking-spice, ginger snap and leather suggestions provide contrast. The 2016 Pinot Noir Atticus John Sebastiano Vineyard bursts from the glass with an exuberant bouquet of red cherry, plum preserve, black figs, licorice, sweet spices, black tea and a generous application of creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is ample and medium to full-bodied, with lovely energy and tension at the core despite its decadently ripe aromas, with its tannins fine-grained and its finish long and sappy.
