NVWE Notes: Paul Lato’s grandest Pisoni yet, this is majestic Pinot. Concentrated, piquantly fresh and perfectly ripe, the nose gushes-forth scents of sweet and sour red cherry, Italian Maraschino cherry, dried cranberry, dried currant, dried Mr. Lincoln rose, dried orange peel, star anise, baking-spice, sandalwood and sweet tobacco. It proves just as opulently fruity-spicy on the palate, where the mouth-feel is outright luxurious and the zesty, concentrated red fruit flavors are focused and pure enough to submerge the wine’s significant tannins. The finish seems to keep on expanding and balances its panorama of mixed cherry, black raspberry, black plum, strawberry jam, blueberry, dried orange peel, dry rose, lavender, star anise, sandalwood, clove, peppercorn, dried sage, celery seed, dried Porcini mushroom, leather, hazelnut and chalky mineral flavors beautifully. Possibly ten years from its apogee, it is both thrilling already and worth the wait.
