PAUL LATO PINOT NOIR "THE PROSPECT", SIERRA MADRE VINEYARD, SANTA MARIA VALLEY 2015
NVWE Notes: If not as flamboyant as the 2014 Prospect, the ‘15 is deeper and may prove even finer in time. The nose meld scents of lingonberry, red Maraschino cherry, pomegranate, cherry pit, watermelon, orange zest, coriander seed, toasted grain and star anise into a charming, if youthfully firm package. It is as fruity-zesty on the palate, although tannic grip firms the texture, while sophisticated savory accents roll in to bring depth to the flavor profile. Those flavors roll through a long, well-structured finish, where fresh bottled red cherry, Santa Rosa plum, whortleberry, orange cranberry relish, potpourri, rose, dried orange peel tea, pink peppercorn, sumac, clove, sandalwood, celery seed, toasted hazelnut, cardamom, toffee and graphite are all in view. If delicious now, it is likely four or more from it’s maturity.
The 2015 Pinot Noir The Prospect Sierra Madre Vineyard is polished and sensual from the very first taste. Plump and juicy, but also light on its feet, it has a level of finesse and subtlety that is quite rare in this vintage. Bright, saline notes infuse the tightly wound finish. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 for a year or two. Drink 2018 - 2025 Antonio Galloni Sep 2017
