PAUL LATO PINOT NOIR "THE PROSPECT", SIERRA MADRE VINEYARD, SANTA MARIA VALLEY 2016
NVWE Notes: Each vintage of “Prospect” seems deeper and the 2016 is certainly so. The nose offers creamy-rich scents of raspberry coulis, black cherry, cherry pit, Santa Rosa plum, lingonberry, whortleberry, pomegranate, pink rose, sumac, pink peppercorn, sandalwood, vanilla toffee, ginger, nutmeg and a hint of hazelnut. There is a juicy rush of contrasting flavor surprises on the palate, led by lingonberry, whortleberry, sour red cherry, strawberry, plum, pomegranate, dried raspberry, orange-cherry relish and pink rose, tied to sweet-savory notes of pink peppercorn, sumac berry, celery seed, mace, nutmeg, clove, ginger and hazelnut. The finish is long, deliciously complex and never less than juicy-fresh. Expect four years and beyond of steady development.
The 2016 Pinot Noir The Prospect Sierra Madre Vineyard reveals a rich bouquet of ripe black cherries, cassis and dried flowers, generously framed by smoky new oak. On the palate, it's more ample and voluptuous than the Duende, with more power and a richer core of fruit that largely conceals its fine tannins. This is the most fruit-forward bottling in the Paul Lato portfolio this year, and I suspect it will be the most giving in its youth. Drink Date: 2018 - 2028 William Kelley 27th Apr 2018
