PEIRSON MEYER CHARDONNAY, SOPHIA'S VINEYARD, RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY 2014
NVWE Notes: If still a hint restrained, the nose of this densely-packed Chardonnay shows depth and richness in its richly-oaked melange of peach cobbler, baked green apple, Persian raisin, lime zest, pineapple core, praline, brioche, orange blossom, baking-spice and hut husk scents. It is heftier and more forthcoming on the palate, where peach, apple, pear, apricot, pineapple core, Persian raisin, praline, orange and hazelnut nougat flavors achieve a rich and lasting harmony. Beautifully food-balanced despite its richness, it should offer ever more lovely dinner service for several years. 350 cases produced.

A smaller cuvée, the 2014 Chardonnay Sophia’s Vineyard sees the same formula of malolactic and barrel fermentation in 40% new oak. It is from a cooler site on a rolling hillside. Light gold in color, with plenty of honeysuckle, white peach, brioche and crème brûlée, this wine from 40-year-old vines has loads of minerality, an inner core of fruit that is superb and a long finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
