ROCHIOLI PINOT NOIR "THREE CORNER", RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY 2010
The 2010 Pinot Noir Three Corner wraps around the palate with intense dark black fruit, menthol, spices and licorice. This is one of the most brooding, structured wines in the lineup. Energy, focus and power are some of the many virtues found in the Three Corner. Layers of fruit continue to build in the glass as the wine fills out over time. This is a dazzling effort from Tom Rochioli. The yields here are just 1-1.5 tons per acre. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020.
Three Corner is a block in the estate vineyard that was planted in 1974. The 2010 is very rich and full bodied,—dramatically so—packed with cherries and pomegranates and savory spices and minerals. The power reflects the vineyard's site in a warmer part of the valley. But the wine never loses sight of elegance, and, like all Rochioli's vineyard-designated Pinot Noirs, it is in need of age. Don't even think of popping the cork before 2016, and the wine should develop for many years afterward.
