SPOTTSWOODE SAUVIGNON BLANC, NAPA/SONOMA 2018
NVWE Notes: At once seductively rich and appealingly zesty, the nose of this oh-so-generous wine offers an aromatic perfume of Meyer lemon curd, nectarine, honeydew melon, golden fig, orange blossom, rye seed, lemon grass, white pepper, vanilla, brioche and chalk scents. The zest and mineral expressions are more prominent in the mouth, where peach pit, apple skin, quince and chalk notes create a textural foil to the otherwise palate-coating fruit and spice. Meyer lemon sorbet, golden mulberry, nectarine, fig, guava, passion fruit, lavender, rye seed and white pepper are high points in the lingering finish. This beauty, quite delicious by itself, is built for service with richly sauced fish and fowl.
Lemon meringue, spice and grapefruit flavors reveal whiffs of lanolin and spice lingering in the background, as well candied ginger and floral details. Balances focus and intensity, with a light body and fresh, juicy acidity. Drink now. 3,754 cases made. —Issue Oct 31, 2019 MW
