TALLEY PINOT NOIR "EAST RINCON", RINCON VINEYARD, ARROYO GRANDE VALLEY 2014
NVWE Notes: Distinctive for it’s spicy fruit mix, this “special bottling” is both delicious and age-worthy. The aromas are a complex melange of focused Amarena cherry, bottled crab apple, red boysenberry, pomegranate, teaberry, black raspberry, pink rose, pink peppercorn, sumac berry and black tea scents. On the palate, chalky minerality and a bit of tannin bring a firming dryness, while notes of porcini mushroom, leather, sandalwood, mulling-spice, ginger and star anise expand the flavor profile. The finish is lingering and subtly gutsy. Delicious now, it will grow more elegant and sophisticated over the next three to five years. 9 barrels made.
Leading off the single vineyard releases, the 2014 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard is a killer effort that has plenty of intensity and depth in its black cherry, raspberry, crushed flowers and underbrush aromas and flavors. Very fresh, floral and vibrant, with bright acidity, it has solid concentration and will keep for a decade. Robert Parker
aged for 15 months in French oak, 30 percent of it new) Lurid ruby. Vibrant, mineral-laced red berry and floral pastille scents pick up hints of cola, vanilla and Asian spices with air. Juicy, focused and appealingly sweet, offering sappy raspberry and cherry-cola flavors, along with five-spice powder and rose nuances in the background. Closes impressively long and sweet, displaying resonating red fruit character and silky, harmonious tannins that sneak in late. Drink 2019 - 2025. Sep 2016 Josh Raynolds
