TALLEY PINOT NOIR, STONE CORRAL VINEYARD, EDNA VALLEY 2015
Wine Advocate
93+ Points
Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Pinot Noir Stone Corral is scented of fresh mulberries, black raspberries and pomegranate with touches of black soil, stewed tea and rose hip, plus a waft of mossy bark. Light to medium-bodied, the mouthfilling intensity of delicately played flavors is impressive, framed by pleasantly chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long.

(aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 28% of them new) Vivid ruby-red. A highly aromatic bouquet evokes ripe red fruits, candied rose and Asian spices, enlivened by a vibrant mineral overtone. Silky and precise on the palate, offering intense, mineral-laced raspberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors that put on weight and become sweeter with air. Delivers a suave blend of power and finesse and finishes extremely long, featuring harmonious tannins and outstanding clarity.
NVWE Notes: This intense young Pinot is packed with savory spice, but it’s fruit-centric. The nose ties cherry pie, raspberry gallete, strawberry cobbler and Umeboshi plum to fresher scents of sweet red cherry, sour cherry and rose water: the whole embraced by deep coriander seed, sandalwood, peppercorn, hunter’s broth and forest floor accents. It seems almost Pommard-like in its creamy richness on the palate, where the flavors replicate the aromas luxuriously. The finish is opulent, lingering and food friendly. If wonderfully satisfying already, it is at least four years from its full expression. 294 cases made.
