WILLIAMS SELYEM PINOT NOIR, SONOMA COAST 2013
A full-bodied blend from different vineyard sites, this wine celebrates darker, denser aspects of black cherry and cranberry alongside a savory, herbal component that persists on the palate, finished up by a mouthwatering mix of orange and chocolate. Complex and robust in tannin, it needs time to breathe before being enjoyed. 10/1/2015 VB
NVWE Notes: Both more elegant and more aromatically forthcoming than typical for the Sonoma Coast bottling, this is an especially classy effort. The nose is brightly fruity, and it’s packed with focused scents of boysenberry, blueberry, whortleberry, sumac berry and raspberry ice cream sickle, that layer over aromas of dark minerals and tobacco. The wine is tighter, yet slightly juicier on the palate, where flavors of tobacco, cedar and orange zest contrast others of Maraschino cherry, whortleberry and sumac, creating a crearly youthful, but impressive package. Long and racy, the finish shows both the zest and tannic grip for several years of improvement.
