NVWE Notes: Gutsy, rich and ever more seductive as it airs, this fascinating Nebbiolo gradually fans-out aromas of dried red berry, Italian Maraschino cherry, strawberry, cranberry, dried dark rose, violet, mace, cardamom, Oolong tea leaf and porcini mushroom. It is as deep and juicy as expected on the palate, where a firm spine of polished tannin underpins a sophisticated layering of red berry, cherry, dried cranberry, dried rose, orange peel tea, mace, cardamom, star anise, nutmeg and mushroom flavors. The finish is supple, beautifully food-balanced and lingering, and this already delicious wine is certain to improve for at least five more years. 145 cases produced.
Pale to medium ruby colored, the 2010 Nebbiolo Rocca has a pretty nose of kirsch, raspberry preserves and red plums with potpourri, baking spice and dried herbs hints. Medium to full-bodied, with generous red fruit and spice layers, plus a chewy backbone and plenty of freshness to support, it finishes long and perfumed. Drinking well now, I’d love to see what this can do with 10-12 years in the cellar. Nicely done!
