2022 Patria Cabernet Sauvignon “The Monarch”, Napa Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel Score 95+ Points
This surprising Cabernet is delightfully generous to the nose, where jammy aromas of blackberry, black currant, black fig, mocha, star anise and clove rise above an undercurrent of bouillon. Mocha, licorice root and sweet and savory spice are as prominent as sweet-natured cherry berry fruit on the palate, where the texture is opulent yet food-balanced and the finish is as delicious as it is persistent. The wine is likely to further improve, yet the pleasure it already delivers suggests that further aging is unnecessary.
Decanter Magazine 97 Points
Utterly delicious, bursting with juicy blackberry and blueberry fruit layered with graham cracker spice, cedarwood and chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, it carries a classic Rutherford dust quality, seamlessly laced around rich, dark, succulent fruit. The finish delivers fantastic mineral intensity and a firm spine of racy acidity. A standout – hold the 2021s and drink this soon! Patria is a collaboration between consultant winemaker Tony Biagi and importer Kimberly Jones, who first connected through their work with PlumpJack Winery. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2035.
