2021 Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon Leonardini Vineyard, St Helena, Napa Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel Score 96 Points
2021 produced a firmer, gutsier bottling from this outstanding property, one that delivers a darker personality. Black currant, dark sour cherry and hints of pomegranate syrup join aromas of licorice root, mocha, tobacco and baking spice to fill out the nose. It offers the textbook Leonardini Vineyard zest on the palate, where rich body, focused and slightly jammy red and black fruits create a dinner worthy harmony and give lingering pleasure despite the wine’s youth. If enjoyed now, it should serve as nicely with sauced meats as with grilled steak, and it should get better for several years. 413 cases produced.
Wine Spectator 94 Points
This is inviting, with a deep, dark, winey core of black currant, blackberry and black cherry reduction notes laced with cocoa powder, licorice and sweet tobacco accents. Offers a solid, grippy edge, while a flash of cast iron keeps everything grounded through the finish. Best from 2026 through 2039. 413 cases made. James Molesworth November 15, 2024
