2021 Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon Millennium MM Vineyard, Rutherford, Napa Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel 97+ Points
Deep purple in color and clearly age-worthy despite its already notable charms, this is potentially as fine a Cabernet as Whitehall Lane has ever produced. The nose is a luxurious, intense and focused mix of blueberry, blackberry and black currant scents, with undercurrents of licorice root, cedar, black tea, graphite and dark earth. On the palate, it is as structured and youthful as is expected from its great vintage, so the fruit - so dramatic in the nose - is a bit more restrained on the palate. On the palate, the wine is highly polished and packed with coiled black currant, blueberry and blackberry fruit that slowly expands with airing and lingers with focus and class. Dinner balanced already, it is certain to grow ever more deep and lovely over the next five years and probably well beyond. 336 cases produced.
Decanter Magazine 95 Points
Winemaker Jason Moulton has crafted this blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot from the Millennium MM Vineyard in Rutherford, ageing it for 26 months in 65% new French oak barrels before bottling unfined and unfiltered. The most structured, powerful, and exacting of Whitehall Lane’s 2022 wines, this Cabernet offers remarkable clarity of blackberry and black cherry fruit, infused with fragrant sweet garrigue. Cedar-rich tannins bring a sense of muscularity, while a meaty, rich loamy earth character builds with umami depth through the long finish — a dynamite wine that deserves a place at any dinner table.
