Deep in fruit that gains greater depth from floral hints and lots of dark savory counterpoints, this is a forthcoming and immediately attractive Cabernet that well represents its splendid vintage. The aromas open as a focused medley of red currant, red plum compote, cranberry, violet, cedar, baking spice and coffee bean scents, poised above an emerging core of mulberry and black currant. It is fleshier if more tannic in the mouth and remains fruit and spice dominant, while revealing graphite and mineral undercurrents. The already ultra-appealing flavors carry through a very long and food-worthy finish. Fruit and spice truly carry it now, yet it is likely four years from revealing all of its secrets. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 725 cases produced.

The Igneous Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 22 months in 70% new French oak, highlighting the ripe, fruit-forward character of Calistoga-grown grapes. Fruit is sourced from Huett, Kenefick Ranch, and Bone Ash – the estate vineyard surrounding Venge’s winery. carrying forward its legacy of quality and craftsmanship. In 2023, Igneous is beautifully mineral-driven, with crushed slate notes lifting from the glass alongside a potpourri of black fruits, violets and crème de cassis, with even a pop of blue fruit richness. All comes together on the full-bodied palate, framed by ultra-fine tannins that form an interconnected, solid foundation supporting the wine’s generous fruit. It is laced throughout with the freshness that defines the 2023 vintage. Nils Venge founded the brand in 1992 with the inaugural vintage of Venge Vineyards.
